How can Therapy Help?
What happens during a therapy session?
Therapy is about much more than simply talking about problems and difficult experiences....

Every time we experience a challenge or emotional upset, our brain functions differently....
We may not feel prolonged stress, intense feelings, or even distress, however, the balance of our autonomic nervous system....our Fight/Flight or Rest and Digest system, is disturbed.

When the nervous system is out of balance, the brain and body react differently: The brain uses emotion and past learning to react; logic and cognition shuts down and our body produces stress hormones which can be harmful to our mental and physical health.

Although we can easily rebalance, over time and with repeated negative experiences, the balance of our nervous system becomes tipped towards a more negative experience of life

Although we may cope well and overcome troubles, the imbalance within our nervous system remains, altering the function of the brain and resulting in unwanted feelings, such as:
Anxiety
Low-mood
Depression
Mood-swings
Sleep disturbances
Difficulties relating to others
Difficulty concentrating
Low self-esteem
Burnout
Physical Health concerns
It can be easy to assume that others are not affected by their problems, that we need to 'toughen up' and become more 'resilient' when in reality they may have fewer stressful events weighing on their nervous system, perhaps have experienced less negative experiences throughout life
or they may cope through means of avoiding or denying problems.

Regardless of how a person copes with difficulties in their life, we all have the same internal safety / threat monitor that will switch to high alert and reacting from painful, past experiences, when the nervous system is taxed....creating feelings of Anxiety so we can prepare for the threat, and then low mood and Depression when we feel unable to address the potential threat which actually remains unresolved in the past.
So how can Therapy Help?
During therapy sessions, you will be armed with new tools which will help you to work with your nervous system and reactions, so you FEEL better.
You will learn how past, painful learning (commonly referred to as trauma) impacts on your present day, so you are EMPOWERED to release the shame, guilt and stigma that is often associated with unwanted feelings.

From there we can focus on any emotional, thought-based or behavioural processes and education,
or move on to processing and resolving past painful events so that they do not resurface....if that is your wish.
What happens during a therapy session?

To begin with, I would like to know a little about you and what you would like to achieve by coming to therapy.

Perhaps you would like to share a little about your current circumstances, your past, or how you are feeling....

Maybe you will not know what to say....

You may just want to sit and look out of the window and look at the scenery and take a moment away from life

I am experienced in many different modes of therapy and both verbal and non-verbal communication

Together we will find an approach that fits.
A few words on Holistic Therapy....
Taking a 'Holistic Approach' to therapy

If our bodies are well nourished and cared for, we have the ingredients needed to 'work' better
If we live an active lifestyle, our bodies are healthier and more able to resist or fight off illness
If we have an informed and resourceful mindset, we are better able to deal with any problems that befall us in a helpful, effective way

and if we understand how our own unique experiences in life have
shaped our attitudes, fears, desires & actions, we can learn how
to make conscious choices

.The 'Holistic' approach considers all of factors affecting your
state of wellbeing:

"Understanding Human behaviour has always been my passion in life.

From an early age I learned the true impact of difficult life experiences and how we all develop patterns of automatic beliefs and behaviours which limit us throughout our lifetime....without our awareness, it's just our 'normal'.

I understand how these patterns, and life experiences, can wear us down....
although we may 'COPE', we lose our ability to THRIVE.

We may pass up opportunities or play it small because we've picked up messages that we're not good enough, or 'don't belong'

We may wear a mask to fit in or project confidence but not know how to be vulnerable and intimate in our relationships

We may not have learned how to understand and regulate our emotions so we phase out sadness and anger, leaving it to build and wear us down....or seek relief in behaviours that make things worse.

I understand the many challenges we face when trying to address these experiences and patterns, the challenges presented when we want to make changes, the not knowing 'how' to do things differently, the times when no matter what we try to change, we end up in the same old 'stuck' or frustrating situations

....and the often invalidating and
re-traumatising process of seeking support
But, I also know that it doesn't have to be this way.

There is immense value, freedom and empowerment that comes in learning how our own personal
'Body-Mind-Environment' system
works in shaping our experience of life, and an even greater value in using that knowledge to create a rewarding and fulfilling life."

After over a decade of self-discovery & development work and a 15 year career in the Fire Service as an operational Firefighter, Danielle began applying her life experience and psychological, nutritional, fitness and wellbeing activity training, within her local community and was astounded at the results she achieved with her innovative approach, delivered in a supportive 'Coaching' style format.
Let's Build a
Well-thy LIFE
What does Wellness mean to you?

Is it a happy or desirable lifestyle?
Is it about stress-free living?
Is it feeling good about yourself?
Is it having harmonious relationships?

....or, Is it a general feeling of peace of mind?

For me, I believe it is all five of those elements and more, elements that combine to give us the ability to be content and live with relative ease and fulfilment....but in the rush of modern living we can easily encounter barriers to securing that content and fulfilled life.
Stress, time shortages, unexpected events in life, anxiety, low mood, financial aspects, strained relationships with those close to us, our family / children / friends / co-workers, our interactions with others and health concerns can all pose challenges to our state of wellbeing, and to the wellbeing of those around us.
We cannot remove all of these challenges, but having an impartial & experienced professional by your side to support you, arm you with new resources and help you to break free from stressful, traumatic or limiting patterns, will empower you.

It will give you a roadmap to deal with any challenges that come your way....

and help you to achieve the life you really want to live.
